Collect pictures and photos from magazines, newspapers, etc. Working individually or in small groups, students examine the pictures carefully for information and then prepare a short talk, inventing information which seems to make it as personal as possible. The example I used to give my students the idea was based on some people near a school building and went like this: I saw this picture in today’s newspaper. As soon as I saw it, I thought the building looked familiar. No wonder. I used to work there! Look at that teacher in the middle. He was one of my students. How times flies!
Different students present their pictures to the class and then groups pass their pictures on. It can be quite amusing to hear totally different stories told about the same pictures. Yining Hu (Anhui Province, China)
