Multi-meanings Print
Many words in English have a variety of meanings. Instead of this being a problem, students can invent short stories which incorporate the word in its different meanings. As well as helping students remember vocabulary, it also practises writing – and speaking, when they tell their stories to the class. Encourage them to be imaginative. The more bizarre the story, the more effective it will be. Here is one group’s example for ‘graze’:

The careless hunter’s gun went off by accident and the bullet grazed the skin of a bull that was grazing in a meadow. The furious animal charged towards the hunter. Trying to escape, he jumped over the fence and fell onto some pebbles, grazing his hands and knees.
